Elden Lord

It's over, it's done. Here's how the last dozen hours of Elden Ring went.
...
Wanting to give back to the Elden Ring community and maybe also farm rune arcs, I put down my summon sign once or twice.

New quest

J came out to play games and try local brews. It's been a long time since we'd done couch co-op.

We'd probably score a 3/10 on a plot quiz. As such, we both stumbled into the burn ending. In retrospect burning down the pretty gold tree doesn't really seem like a bro move, but the glowing ashes are lovely.

Around the horn:

Deckbuilding and action

I thiiink we did Elden Ring out of order, doing Starscourge Radahn after the lava castle and capital. I love a good lake of rot though.

How-to

Video games, wood preservation, PC hardware, and a quick trip to Las Vegas. Read on.

Last time I had gotten as far as the Void on AtO. Having now completed the game on normal and two insanity levels, here are some late game boss spoilers that might help advise squad building.

Exploring

Me and J have almost covered the aboveground map, mostly working through Volcano Manor and the Leyndell.

Someone posted a meme on /r/Eldenring about invadees disconnecting rather than fight. This sums up our experience:

Another commentor broke down the mechanics of it:

In J's words, "I just want a timer". Win or lose. None of this trying to bait the host into a bunch of NPCs.

Wtf I love invaders now.

Fog door

I hit the big one. Luckily this game is co-op so I didn't have to do it alone.

Jes put together an awesome party; there were appetizers, desserts, beer, games, and bubbles.

Last time I mentioned maybe hitting the veranda with linseed oil. The sun is pretty quick to destroy fencing around these parts (see above) and termites are not far behind.

Packs

I try out a new kid carrier, do some data entry, and slay my first Elden Ring dragon.

Learning

Investing, video gaming, internetting, parenting, learning - the usual.

Pretty much this. For all of the wary investing I've been doing - from moving my 401k to bonds in 2017 to holding way too much UVXY while actively investing in 2021 - I still got caught out more than I'd like in this recent pullback. The way it goes: TSM loses 10% within the week (my CSP/CC expiration) and so I hold as it slides lower. Now I'm either taking a bigger loss or joining DCA gang.

90s aesthetic

I was thinking about doing a post of some of my favorite sprites of all time (Kirov reporting) but went down a rabbit hole and didn't return in time.

After calling Rob out for spamming me with Hacker News links about blogging that he hadn't read, he sent a bunch more (that I added as comments to the original post). Here are some of the highlights.

Okay, first thing's first, <3 Rob for caring. You've always been a lovable jackass.

Just some scenery and light commentary from mine and J's Elden Ring adventuring.

Diversions

Me and J have managed a few sessions of Elden Ring and we're quite enjoying it.
